Spiritual adultery is when someone worships anything other than God. In Ex 34:15-16, God specifically refers to worshipping false gods as harlotry. A christian’s relationship to Christ is compared to a marriage (Eph 5:23). If a christian turns to idolatry and rebellion, it is the same as defiling a marriage with adultery. God is a jealous God and wants us all to Himself (Ex 34:14).
